For the tenth consecutive year, Grotta Giusti Thermal Spa Resort has been named World’s Best Thermal Grotto Spa at the World Spa Awards 2026.
The award recognises the five-star Tuscan resort for its renowned and unique natural thermal grotto, the largest in Europe, and for its position as one of Italy’s most distinctive spa destinations.

Housed in the 19th-century former residence of poet Giuseppe Giusti, lies the famous thermal grotto, described by composer Giuseppe Verdi as the “eighth wonder of the world.” It was discovered in 1849, and stretches more than 200 metres directly beneath the hotel, and is divided into three immersive chambers named Paradise, Purgatory, and Hell. The cave envelops guests in a natural steam-bath environment, with temperatures ranging from 28-34°C and humidity levels at 98%. The mineral-rich steam creates a deeply relaxing atmosphere and offers therapeutic benefits, including anti-inflammatory effects, while supporting respiratory wellness and overall relaxation.
