Park Rapids’ preliminary property tax levy for 2027 just broke $4 million, up from the city’s 2026 levy of about $3.8 million.
The levy came back for city council approval on Tuesday, Oct. 22, following a Sept. 8 work session where council members agreed to increase the general fund levy by 5% from this year’s preliminary $2.8 million to $3,004,599 in 2027.

The final levy, which will be approved after a truth-in-taxation hearing in December, may be reduced but cannot be increased from the preliminary amount, City Administrator Angel Weasner said.

The council further approved a preliminary general fund budget of $6,184,257 and set a public budget meeting for 6 p.m. on Dec. 8.
Council member Joe Christensen made a motion to approve the budget and levy, which passed 4-0, absent council member Jeremy Engholm.
