Triton Public Schools Contemplates Special Election to Fund Capital Projects
The Triton School District is evaluating the possibility of holding a special election to seek voter approval for a dedicated levy aimed at supporting infrastructure and various district needs. During an upcoming special board meeting scheduled for Monday, August 4th, discussions will focus on whether to propose a levy of $650,000 annually over a decade.
Superintendent Luke Letterman emphasized the district's intent to invest in its future by securing additional resources for facility improvements, transportation, technology upgrades, curriculum development, and addressing deferred maintenance. If approved, the election could take place in November.
Recent survey data indicate that approximately 60% of respondents support the proposed levy, highlighting community backing for the initiative. The district has identified several challenges, including insufficient state funding to cover rising costs and declining student enrollment, which led to budget cuts of nearly $1.3 million over the next two years.
