A Troy man is facing felony charges after New York State Police say a counterfeit currency investigation led to a traffic stop. State Police arrested 29-year-old Kashawn K. Miller on Monday.
Troopers were initially called to a Dunkin’ Donuts on New York 23 in the town of Oneonta around 8 a.m. after a person tried to pay for a drive-thru order with a counterfeit $50 bill.
The person left without any items after an employee questioned the bill. Troopers obtained a description of the driver and the vehicle.
Several hours later, Troopers spotted a Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding in a school zone on Main Street in Schenevus.
The vehicle and driver matched the description from the earlier investigation. During the traffic stop, Troopers say they observed signs of impairment, and field sobriety tests indicated Miller was impaired.
Miller was taken into custody. Troopers say they found two additional counterfeit $50 bills and scales with suspected drug residue.
Miller faces three counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument, along with misdemeanor charges for driving while impaired by drugs and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
