The tanker Musketier and dry cargo vessel Bayern 2 collided at the junction of the Noord and Lek rivers near Kinderdijk, the Netherlands, on September 24, leaving the Bayern 2 with significant damage.
The collision occurred at around 3:30 p.m. local time at the busy river junction. The Bayern 2, an inland cargo vessel, was reportedly navigating from the Lek towards the Noord when it collided with the Musketier, which was approaching from the Noord. The Bayern 2 sustained substantial damage to its side, while the Musketier suffered damage around its bow and side. Following the collision, the Bayern 2 was assisted towards the IHC shipyard at Kinderdijk, while the Musketier continued towards the Lek side near Krimpen aan de Lek.
The tanker was carrying gasoline at the time of the incident, while the Bayern 2 was reportedly carrying animal feed.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, ambulance crews and Rijkswaterstaat, responded to the collision. A police helicopter also monitored the situation from the air.
No injuries were reported among those on board the vessels, and there were no reports of pollution or a release of hazardous substances following the collision.
