A federal judge in Massachusetts on Monday delayed the implementation of a new U.S. rule that would limit how long international students, visiting scholars and foreign journalists can remain in the country, a day before the measure was scheduled to take effect.
The ruling means that foreign students temporarily won’t face a four-year maximum stay in the U.S. On Aug. 18, the Association of International Educators, the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, the American Federation of Teachers and other groups filed suit in federal district court in Massachusetts, seeking to block the new rule from taking effect.
