Celebrating Over Half a Century of UAE Women's Contributions to Date Farming
UAE women have been a cornerstone of the country's agricultural sector for more than 50 years, exemplified by pioneers like Amna Khalifa Al Qemzi, the nation's first female farmer. Many Emirati women have actively participated in land cultivation and agricultural development, supported by lands allocated by the country's leaders since Sheikh Zayed's era.
One such dedicated farmer, Sariaa Al Muhairi, known as Um Saeed, has nearly five decades of experience in date farming. She recalls assisting her father in farm work from a young age, engaging in tasks like watering palms, pruning, and planting—all done manually in an era before mechanization.
After marrying at 25 and relocating to Liwa, Um Saeed acquired a piece of land, gradually expanding her palm grove to over 800 trees. Her commitment transformed her livelihood, enabling her to generate income, support her family, and purchase vehicles. She now owns farms in Dubai and Liwa and manages a date and palm trading business, offering various types such as Al Shishi, Khenaizi, and Al Dibs.
