Understanding Neuropsychology: Insights from a Personal Experience
Previously unfamiliar with the field of neuropsychology, I recently gained a clearer understanding through a personal assessment. The evaluation involved a comprehensive review of my neurological history, including seizures and recent concussions, as well as cognitive testing.
During the session, I was asked about my perceived cognitive challenges, with input from my spouse. Subsequently, I participated in various exercises: memorizing sequences of numbers and words, recalling geometric figures, defining words, and retelling stories. These tasks increased in difficulty and were timed to assess different aspects of my cognitive function.
The results indicated that, despite a normal EEG, there was more brain tissue damage than two years prior, affecting my memory and information processing. Based on these findings, my neuropsychologist recommended a 30-hour cognitive training program called "Posit Science" to help improve these areas.
