Upshur County launches UPLIFT team to help flood survivors rebuild

BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) - Community partners, local officials, and volunteers have launched a countywide recovery network to support Upshur County residents recovering from the July 21 flood.

The initiative, known as UPLIFT, formed following an Aug. 3 federal disaster declaration to connect families with rebuilding aid, case management, financial resources, and emotional support.

“Upshur County has always shown extraordinary strength and compassion,” UPLIFT leaders said in a statement. “We are grateful for everyone who has stepped forward so far, and we look forward to continuing this work together as we help our neighbors recover.”

Upshur County Commissioner Kristie Tenney serves as lead chair for the organization, working alongside co-chair Katie Loudin of WV HUB, secretary Rachel Hamner of MountainHeart, and member-at-large Isaac Casto of the Upshur Parish House.

The team has also appointed committee chairs to guide specific recovery areas, including Kathy McMurray for case management and unmet needs, Erica Bennett for emotional and spiritual care, Heather Schneider for volunteer coordination, Patrick Lane for co...
