USCIS Plans to Revise U.S. Citizenship Examination
The director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Joseph Edlow, has indicated plans to significantly revise the current U.S. citizenship examination for prospective citizens. He suggests that the existing six-question test is insufficiently challenging.
Emphasis on Legislative Intent and Test Content
In a discussion with Fox News Digital, Edlow emphasized that the present test does not fully align with the original legislative intent. Congress aimed for the test to verify that applicants genuinely assimilate into American society by understanding the language, history, and government.
"The test should mirror both the letter and spirit of congressional legislation," Edlow stated. "Proficiency in English, knowledge of our history, and understanding of our government are crucial. The current format and implementation make the test too easy."
