The cuts include 118 jobs at the UVM Medical Center, 24 at the Central Vermont Medical Center and 15 at Helen Porter.
But some, like Alysha Von Stritzy, a registered nurse at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, say they were already dismissed from work on Tuesday.
“I feel like we’ve just been keeping our head above water as much as we can,” said Von Stritzy, Baird 3 chief steward.
Von Stritzy was finishing an overnight shift when she and her colleagues were called into a meeting with hospital management.
“They had proceeded to tell us that Baird 3 would be closing and that the hope is they can get us jobs on other floors and then they would also be potentially not allowing, not giving us a job,” Von Stritzy said.
Baird 3 is a 30-bed unit for patients who don’t fit elsewhere in the hospital. Von Stritzy says the unit was getting busier, not slower.
