Vans has successfully reimagined its classic Old Skool sneaker, drawing inspiration from a renowned Chanel bag introduced over a decade ago. The initial release of the Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” sold out swiftly, but additional opportunities to purchase are forthcoming.
This special edition sneaker is modeled after the 2014 Chanel On the Pavement messenger bag, featuring a distinctive spray-painted upper, a distressed tweed Jazz Stripe, decorative pins, and leather overlays. The first color variant showcases a greenish-brown and orange canvas base complemented by brown leather accents, while the upcoming version will present a more vibrant plum shade with black leather details.
Vans openly acknowledged its design inspiration, which is uncommon in the industry. The original Chanel design debuted during the spring 2015 fashion show, highlighting feminist themes with protest motifs, and was produced in a limited quantity at a retail price of $3,800. The bag gained popularity among celebrities and now commands resale prices many times higher.
