Vena Group’s 72 MW solar plant begins operations in Japan
Electricity output equivalent to 18,500 households’ annual consumption.
Vena Group has commenced commercial operations at its 72-megawatt (MW) Maniwa Solar Project in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan.
The project converts a former golf course into a solar power plant, repurposing previously developed land and reducing the need to develop additional sites.
The facility underpins LY Corporation’s first virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) and is Japan’s largest single solar power facility dedicated to VPPAs to date, according to Vena Group.
The agreement allows the renewable energy generated by the plant to provide environmental attributes that contribute to LY Corporation’s decarbonisation efforts.
Digital Grid Corporation trades the clean energy generated by the project on the Japan Electric Power Exchange, helping expand Japan’s renewable energy market.
The project is expected to generate clean electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 18,500 households.
Compared with conventional thermal power generation, it is also expected to avoid around 40,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and cons...
