Venice Introduces Fully Electric Water Taxi to Preserve Heritage and Promote Sustainability
In a significant step towards sustainable urban transit, Venice has unveiled its first fully electric water taxi, named Lucietta. Developed through a collaboration between renowned design firm Nauta Design, Italian shipbuilder Cantiere Serenella, and Swiss energy provider Repower, this innovative vessel aims to modernize Venice's iconic waterways while safeguarding its historic environment.
Lucietta embodies a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from historical Venetian water taxis, the design team meticulously studied vintage drawings and consulted local drivers to ensure the vessel respects the city's maritime heritage. Equipped with a powerful 200-kW electric motor and a 180-kWh battery, Lucietta can operate for an entire day without recharging, reaching speeds up to 34.5 mph and comfortably accommodating 14 passengers.
