The National Football League has handed down a three-game unpaid suspension to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison for breaching the league's substances of abuse policy, the team announced on Tuesday.
ESPN reported on Monday that the team anticipated this decision following the resolution of Addison's legal case related to his July 2024 DUI arrest.
According to the Vikings, Addison will be allowed to participate fully in training camp and preseason contests. However, he will be sidelined for the season opener on September 8 in Chicago against the Bears on Monday Night Football. Additionally, he will miss home games against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals in Weeks 2 and 3.
Addison is permitted to return for the Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland.
The incident occurred in July 2024 when police found Addison asleep at the wheel of his Rolls-Royce, which was obstructing traffic on Interstate 105 near Los Angeles International Airport. He settled his legal issues last month by pleading no contest to a lesser charge, resulting in 12 months probation, a fine, and the completion of two online courses.
