Blocks, sets, spikes, and digs have been all over the court for the Vikings volleyball team as they start September. Siuslaw already has five matches in the ledger, including their first league game.
Over the course of that five-game span, the Vikings have gone 1-4. The lone win came in the first game of the season against Reedsport on Aug. 28 at the Double Dual hosted by Elmira High School.
Siuslaw played two games, one with the Brave and the second against hosting Elmira. The Vikings beat Reedsport in four sets, by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 25-10, before falling to Elmira in three sets, 15-25, 22-25, and 14-25. After the split results, Head Coach McKenzie Perry said there were some highlights from the two matches.
"We saw some really bright spots in the fourth set vs. Reedsport, and even though we got swept by Elmira, there were some great things happening, especially in the 2nd set," Perry said.
Charley Johnson, Maren Hughes, and Stella Duman led the team in kills across the two matches, collecting 10, 11, and 15 kills, respectively. Paige Bottensek was also highlighted by Perry for her impressive serving, and she notched nine aces in the two contests.
