Virginia State Unveils New Academic Hub to Enhance Campus Life

Virginia State University is set to introduce the Alfred W. Harris Academic Commons, a significant expansion aimed at enriching campus facilities. Located at 1 Hayden Drive, this modern, versatile structure will serve as the new home for the College of Education and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Replacing the former gymnasium and Harris Hall, which have been demolished, the new facility is much more than an academic building. It features a fully equipped theater, an art gallery, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium, reflecting VSU's commitment to the comprehensive development of its students both academically and personally. Spanning over 174,000 square feet, it is expected to be the largest building on campus. University President Dr. Makola Abdullah emphasized the positive impact of the new complex on student growth.
