Australian Women's Rugby Team Faces Setback Ahead of 2025 World Cup
The Australian women's rugby team, the Wallaroos, face a significant setback ahead of the 2025 Rugby World Cup as star player Charlotte Caslick has officially withdrawn from the tournament. Currently undergoing recovery from ankle surgery, Caslick, a three-time Olympian, was part of the squad with hopes of returning midway through the competition in England. However, she has made the difficult decision to step back from her World Cup ambitions.
Caslick's Injury and Withdrawal
Caslick, who previously excelled in Rugby Sevens, announced her withdrawal via social media, citing an extended injury recovery as the reason. She revealed she fractured her fibula and ruptured her syndesmosis four weeks prior, and despite efforts to accelerate her rehabilitation, it became clear she wouldn't be ready in time.
"Sometimes, the biggest opponent in sport is time," Caslick shared on Instagram. "I’m proud of my transition from Sevens to 15s and the growth I've experienced both on and off the field. I’ve also gained a new circle of friends who are heading to England to compete."
