The Happy Valley Warriors had plenty of reason for confidence Friday night when they looked at the scoreboard and saw more than two minutes remaining and a timeout in their pocket while trailing by seven points.
The Warriors had just marched down the field on their previous possession, scored a touchdown and boldly went for 2 points to make it a one-score game.
It was not to be, however, as Blue Devils cornerback Isaac Acevedo intercepted a deflected screen pass from Warriors quarterback Lane Parker to end the game and hand the fifth-ranked Warriors (4-1) their first regular-season loss in 18 games.
The Warriors got off to a quick start as Parker broke several tackles en route to a 61-yard touchdown run to put Happy Valley ahead 7-0.
The Blue Devils responded with a 7-yard touchdown run to tie the game at the 7:10 mark. The Warriors answered in the closing seconds of the first quarter with a 62-yard touchdown to retake the lead at 14-7.
