As if Georgia vs. Alabama needed any more hype, President Donald Trump just added another layer to next Saturday’s showdown.
Trump announced Friday night during an event in Mobile that he plans to attend the October 10 matchup between Georgia and Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
“I’ll be here again next Saturday to watch a football game between Georgia and Alabama,” Trump told the crowd, while also pointing out the teams’ high national rankings.
And suddenly, one of the biggest games on the SEC calendar feels even bigger.
Trump has made several appearances at major sporting events this year, and this will be his second major college football appearance in three weeks after attending Texas-Tennessee in Knoxville.
Now he gets Georgia-Alabama.
Bryant-Denny was already going to be rocking for a primetime matchup between two programs that have dominated the SEC conversation for years. Add a presidential visit, the security presence and the national attention that comes with it, and Tuscaloosa could become the center of the sports world next Saturday night.
