MARTIN, TN — The last time the Westview Chargers took the field, they faced a disappointing defeat to Alcoa in the 2024 Class 3A State Championship. Since that setback, the team has channeled their frustration into determination as they prepare for another bid at the state crown.
Head coach Matt McConnell highlighted the team's relentless drive. "Throughout the offseason, we've seen their hunger during conditioning and workouts. They carry a bit of a bad taste from that loss, which motivates them."
The Chargers are returning most of their offensive stars, including quarterback Graham Simpson, who earned the title of MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.
One of McConnell’s main challenges will be maintaining focus, especially as some games might be decided by a running clock. "It's definitely a challenge," he acknowledged. "We emphasize winning each day and improving step by step, rather than stressing over the season's final outcome. We have mature leaders who help keep the team grounded."
Westview's 2025 campaign kicks off on August 22nd with a home game against MASE.
