The high-dollar, high-stakes race for the open N.C. House was expected to be a close contest between Democrat Danny Davis and Republican Jimmy Rogers.
The contest between the two well-known Haywood natives for N.C. House has been one of the most closely watched races this season. The candidates raised more than $160,000 in the bid to take the open seat previously held by ousted N.C. Rep. Mark Pless.
The N.C. House of Representatives district also includes Madison County.

These numbers include early voting results — with more than half of those expected to vote in the election having done so during early voting. Democrats tend to turn out in higher numbers during early voting compared to Republicans, so an early lead by Democratic candidates won’t necessarily hold as Election Day votes trickle in over the course of the evening.
