Willy Chavarría Collaborates with Adidas on a Huarache-Inspired Sneaker
Renowned Chicano designer Willy Chavarría continues his partnership with Adidas, teasing the launch of a new sneaker that fuses traditional Mexican huarache sandals with modern sneaker design. The latest creation, the Oaxaca Slip-On, was showcased in Puerto Rico over the weekend (August 3). This black huarache-style sandal features a robust sole with a rugged tread, combining classic leather craftsmanship with contemporary tactical elements. Notably, the shoe displays an embossed Adidas logo alongside Willy Chavarría's signature branding on the heel, while the interior boasts a holographic gold Adidas emblem at its center.
Chavarría explained that the design draws inspiration from traditional huarache footwear, serving as a homage to his Mexican heritage—a recurring motif in his work. The new sneaker was modeled by YouTuber Juan Berthau in a photoshoot by photographer Marco Ovando, who has previously collaborated with the designer.
