Windom police say person hospitalized after overnight shots-fired call, hours-long response

WINDOM, Minn. (KEYC) - A person is hospitalized after firing multiple shots and prompting an hours-long police response in Windom early Saturday, according to the Windom Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Drake Avenue just after 3:00 a.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired, police said. Shortly after arriving, officers heard several more shots, prompting them to set up a perimeter and advise nearby residents to shelter in place.

The department’s Heat Team — a specialized crisis response unit — was called in to help resolve the situation. The individual was eventually taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted injury, police said.

Police have not released the person’s name, age or gender, and no charges have been announced. Investigators say no further details will be released at this time.

The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Heat Team, Windom Fire, Windom Ambulance and the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office.
