KEWASKUM, Wis. — Wisconsinites gathered at the official Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial in Kewaskum, Wis., on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. They remembered the lives lost and recognized the local ties to that day.
The family of Andrea Haberman, a 9/11 victim from Kewaskum, rang a bell 25 times during the ceremony. Each ring represented one year since the attacks.
Gordon Haberman, Andrea Haberman’s father, said he hopes his daughter is remembered for how she treated others.
“I hope she is remembered for kindness because she was kind to everybody,” Haberman said.
This year, the memorial also added a new stone with the names of every Sept. 11 victim with ties to Wisconsin.
“By sharing their names, we hope to remind everyone who visits the September 11th memorial that it was not just a New York tragedy,” said Mark Bazata, president of the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial Board.
Charlie Warren, who attended the ceremony, reflected near the new memorial stone before the event began.
“It makes you want to shed a tear sometimes, just looking at the names and how things unfolded,” Warren said.
