Democrat Brian Wrightson has taken an early lead over incumbent Republican Rosemary Brown in the 40th District state Senate race, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

In a race fueled by data centers, Wrightson, who lives in Northeast Pennsylvania’s data center hotspot of Archbald, leads with 31,597 votes to Brown’s 23,788 as of 9:30 p.m., according to state election figures across Lackawanna, Monroe and Wayne counties. The 40th Senate District includes all of Monroe County and parts of Lackawanna and Wayne counties. In Lackawanna County, the district encompasses the Upvalley, Midvalley and North Pocono regions.

Wrightson jumped to an early lead through mail-in votes, which have historically skewed Democrat, though Brown has begun to close the gap with Election Day ballots. Wrightson has so far garnered 14,493 Election Day votes and 17,104 mail-in ballots, to Brown’s 15,462 Election Day votes and 8,326 mail-in ballots, according to unofficial results.
