ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — The initiative to establish a new Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic in Elizabethtown has gained momentum following a key decision by city officials. The city council approved a rezoning request for the proposed site, opening the door for the project's realization.
The developer plans to construct a 60,000-square-foot VA medical facility on an undeveloped plot along Peach Orchard Road near Ring Road. Previously, the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission had denied the rezoning application, which sought to change the land designation from residential to commercial.
Joe Reverman, Director of Planning and Development, explained that public opposition was significant during the initial hearing, primarily from residents concerned about increased traffic. "Many neighbors expressed their concerns at the meeting," he noted.
However, during the recent city council session, members voted in favor of reclassification, permitting commercial development and moving the project forward.
Councilwoman Mika Tyler emphasized the strategic location, stating, "The site is adjacent to Ring Road, a major commercial corridor, and aligns with our comprehensive planning guidelines."
